I haven’t turned into a boring old fart…

There has been some concern that, since my close encounter with the electronical clippers, that I’ve gorn all “square…”. I spent enough time working as ‘a suit’ to ever go back there – been there, done that !

Please accept this latest picture ( expertly taken yesterday, by Carla ) as proof that neither my character, nor hair, has really changed – although the tawny owls nesting in the beard are sadly no longer there.

However, I have donated the beard trimmings to the local bird population – they will be keeping many a young chick warm on these nippy nights. That’s me, recyclable man

P.S. Sorry about the baseball cap, Lewis.

I am the last to give advice on sartorial matters but, with respect, I really believe that a Navy Blue Fisherman’s Cap would enhance the image….

Lewis – just for you I’ll try and find one…  Which won’t be difficult, as the harbour is full of doddery old retirees, who’ve spent the kids inheritances on floating ‘gin palaces’ – on which they sit, safely moored, drinking Pimms or G&T’s, and proudly wearing their oiled-wool Guernsey sweaters  or their Fishermans Smocks, and the obligatory  Breton Caps.

You can hardly hear yourself think, for the clinking of glasses, and the sound of the drunks falling (or worse  ) into the harbour…  Maybe I’ll just hang around the jetties, with a boathook (to fish out the Caps – not the drunks…)

  3. Lewis Pelham says:

Not many floating gin palaces up here in Appledore, but plenty of Breton Caps….usually sported by fishermen and pirates.

    PS.
Forgot to include the Sea Shanty "band"….shudder!

  5. Lewis Pelham says:

With the new sand coloured format, perhaps a solar topee and putees would be more appropriate.

  6. alan says:

Lewis, strangely enough the top ‘website’ panel, and the right sidebar are ‘parchment’ – and the colour behind this main body of text is ‘textured ivory’.  Don’t you like the ‘wood effect’ Home buttons ?

Very reminiscent of the ‘after-market’ dash in a Wolseley Hornet I used to know….

  7. Lewis Pelham says:

Yes….and almost as tacky. I tried to add a smiley but have not had the necessary training.

  8. alan says:

Lewis – you may note that the background has changed yet again, now that I can get back on my PC (Jo has gone home…) – the elderly laptop screen that I get relegated to,  doesn’t quite reflect the true colours !

    (Here are the Smiley instructions)

Just left-click on the ‘grin’ you want, and hold the button down as you drag it into place.  ‘Drop it’ where you want it to be, by releasing the left mouse button – then move the mouse away, and left-click in an empty area of the comment box to make it permanent….

You can reposition it afterwards, with the same technique, should you so wish.

Than last "blank" note was to demonstrate my new found skill of including a smiley

  11. Lewis Pelham says:

    Doooh…it failed to work again.

  12. alan says:

Lewis – don’t feel persecuted, doesn’t seem to work for Carla either !   I have three PC’s here and it works on all of them, but obviously more testing is in order – sincerest apologies !

" Mi dispiache  " – as they say in the Rampone factory… I’ve temporarily removed them… 😦 ( that last smiley was done the ‘old‘ way…)

  13. alan says:

🙂   😀  :roll:  :oops:  😕 Yeah ! Works by just ‘clicking’ now, double-click for the first one, single-click afterwards to add more !

Ah so – possibly/hopefully fixed – just try clicking on a smiley (don’t think you always need to double-click – except for the first time – single click after that ), and it’ll put something like "" in the comment – which will turn into a smiley when you ‘Post’.  No dragging and dropping !  Just click away…

  14. Gandalfe says:

Beard trimed, can the hair be far behind? We have you ready for the next war in no time at all! 😯

  15. Lewis Pelham says:

    🙂

  16. carla says:

    you’re not a boring old fart ! 😀 🙄

  17. alan says:

So – seems like it’s sorted, with just the slight caveat that there may need to be a space between text and a smilie – just like the old way, where ":)" or ":(" needed to be detached from any text to work.  All’s (seemingly) well, that ends well 🙂

  18. Lewis Pelham says:

Yes…all sorted Alan; also I must agree with Carla that you are not a boring old fart.
BOFs wear beige trousers & play bowls…generalisation of course. I am reminded that Dr. Johnson said "only fools generalise", which, in itself is a generalisation….but he knew that!  😕
